Keeping The Weather Out: Homeowner How-tos (November 07, 2026)

Sat, 07 Nov 2026 15:00:00 GMT

Perfect for home and property owners eager to get ready for the cold weather season, this workshop covers how to fix cracks and drafts, repair problem doors and windows, and practice the best winterization methods and techniques. Taught by local renovation specialist, Eric Cheever, this class is for anyone caring for an older home or structure.

The workshop takes place on Saturday, November 7th, 9 a.m. to noon, at the beautiful Queen Anne-style home near downtown St. Cloud built in 1886 by Frank Fandel, founder of Fandels Department Stores. The yellow brick structure has seen various remodels and alterations throughout its 140 years of existence, making it the perfect setting to learn about everything from energy audits and tuckpointing to how older, existing buildings can be just as snug and energy efficient as newer ones. A must for anyone looking to get ready for winter!

Held both inside and out, the workshop will include a tour of the home and a chance to practice the effective skills and techniques needed for keeping the weather out of your own home or structure. A complimentary boxed lunch will be provided courtesy of the site host, Peter Fandel. General admission is $30. Admission for museum members is $25. Class size is limited so register today!

This project is in part funded by the Historic Preservation Education Foundation.

Thu, 12 Nov 2026 16:00:00 GMT

Another great Heritage Circle Tour is coming your way! Join us Thursday, November 12th, at 10 a.m. for a tour of DeZURIK in Sartell. Nearly a century old, DeZURIK got its start in 1928 when Matt DeZurik designed a valve for his employer, the Sartell Paper Mill. The DeZurik Eccentric Valve he created transformed the paper and pulp industry and launched a company that has become an innovative leader in valve technologies across the world. Learn about the company's deep history, its strong ties to the central Minnesota region, and its mission and vision for the future. A tour not to be missed!

Space for the tour is limited so register soon. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required for the tour. DeZURIK is graciously offering mobility assistance upon request. Please let us know in advance if you would like to take advantage of their offer.

Heritage Circle Tours are special members-only tours. Members play an important role in helping the Stearns History Museum preserve and share the history of Stearns County. Thank you for your support!
