More historic building preservation knowledge and fun is coming your way with the upcoming hands-on workshop, Windows of Opportunity: Restoring Historic Double-Hung Windows. During the class, instructor and preservation expert, Mark Johnston, will demonstrate the mechanics of original wood windows, techniques for disassembly and reinstallation, and the process of re-glazing and painting. Participants will get the opportunity to bring their own window sash from home to work on with Mark’s guidance. Gain working knowledge of how your windows were originally built and how they can be maintained by attending this class! Demystify window restoration and provide yourself with the necessary tools to keep your windows in great shape. Register today!

Windows of Opportunity: Restoring Historic Double-Hung Windows will be held on Saturday, August 15th, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at a newly-restored home in St. Cloud’s Southside Neighborhood Historic District. Whether you are a home or building owner needing help with repairs, a building preservation enthusiast eager to learn or just want to know how things are built, this workshop has something for you!

Fix It Clinic (August 20, 2026)

Get your stuff fixed for free! The Stearns History Museum and Tri-County Solid Waste Commission are partnering to host free Fix-It Clinics across central Minnesota and the next clinic is coming up fast. The clinic will be held on Thursday, August 20^th, 1-4 p.m. at Whitney Senior Center (1527 Northway Drive) in St. Cloud.

Fix-it clinics offer a hands-on opportunity to have textiles and household items such as small appliances, toys and more repaired by skilled volunteers. Learn valuable repair skills, keep stuff out of landfills, and get your stuff fixed for free at this skills-sharing, community-building, waste-reducing repair event!

Pre-registration is required for the Whitney Senior Center fix-it clinic with a limit of two items per household.
